According to data from AI Coding.info, until last month the AI coding agent usage share rankings were led by Claude Code, followed by GitHub Copilot in second place and Codex CLI in third.

By the end of December 2025, the usage shares of GitHub Copilot and Codex had become nearly equal. On January 8, 2026, a noticeable gap began to emerge, with Codex reaching a 25.5% share compared to Copilot’s 24.3%.

As of January 21, 2026, Codex has clearly overtaken GitHub Copilot in usage share.

The current AI coding agent usage shares are as follows:

1. Claude Code: 31.6% 2. Codex CLI: 26.7% 3. Copilot Agent: 22.9% 4. Cursor: 9.7% 5. Gemini CLI: 6.3%
